Alaska Guide School: Intro

The Alaska Guide School has been in operation for over 15 years and has provided professional training for many helicopter, snowcat, and backcountry ski guides. The Level 1 Heliski Guide course teaches the basic disciplines that are required in a professional helicopter ski guide The Alaska Guide School is the only training center in the United States offering this type of certified training and we are setting the standards for helicopter ski guides in Alaska. Now that you have enrolled in the course you will be eligible for discounted rates on helicopter time and great deals on skiing, snowboarding, and mountaineering equipment. The only requirement you must possess to attend the guide course is the ability to ski deep and steep powder snow.

*All Level 1 participants must be in Haines, Alaska by the evening of February 19th and be ready on February 20th to begin the guide school. To get to Haines you must first fly in to Juneau on Alaska Airlines or drive directly to Haines via the Alaska Highway through Canada. If you are flying to Juneau, then you must either fly a small airline company such as Wings of Alaska or you can ride the ferry on The Alaska Marine Highway system. A small plane flight from Juneau to Haines costs @ $100.00 one way and is 30 minutes long. However, they are unreliable due to weather at this particular time of the year. We suggest taking the ferry from Juneau to Haines ($38 each way). Check out www.ferryalaska.com for more information on the Alaska Marine Highway.
